Our Story
Hi! My name is Cheianna, I am the founder and creator of Shy Denim.
I am a young Aboriginal fashion enthusiast originally from the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. My obsessions include soaking up the sun, sparkles and all things denim. For as long as I can remember, I have always been interested in fashion. My mum taught me to sew at a young age and I loved learning how to make things. In 2010 I started my own self-titled fashion blog which was my main creative outlet growing up.
I studied a Bachelor of Creative Industries at Queensland University of Technology. My major was Fashion Communication and minors were Visual Arts and Journalism. I completed multiple internships throughout these years and worked as a sales assistant to fund my clothing obsession. When I graduated university at the end of 2017 I started to work on Shy Denim and became a Visual Merchandiser at Topshop Topman. This career has lead me to Sydney, which is where I now call home.
I have always been a sucker for magazines: Total Girl, Girlfriend, Cosmo, Vogue - you know? The classics. I would read these a million times before ripping them apart and covering my walls with pictures and collages from the pages within. When I found something inspiring inside I would often try and recreate this with my own twist (and budget). Espeically during high-school when I went to events or parties I would often make outfits with my mum out of funky fabrics or second-hand pieces from op shops. This way I could have something cool, unique and affordable. When I grew older and started wearing my customised outfits to uni, festivals and work I would get so many compliments, which is how I found the market for what I was making.
Shy Denim was born. I began to collect and customise second hand denim to create new, exciting products to sell. The pieces I create are made to make anyone both look and feel confident and amazing.

This is a one-woman show, built and run by myself from my little studio in Sydney. I work on Shy Denim whenever I have time off from my day job and am always thinking of new, exciting ideas for my brand - this is only the beginning!
